Chinese Trade Mission Visits Alaska

With 34,000 miles of coastline, Alaska is the world’s largest and most abundant commercial fishing base. Alaska seafood traders in China, curious about this seafood mecca, set out on a trade mission from July 8 – 14, gaining insight into the unique geographical climate, environment, and characteristics of its seafood. The traders visited Icicle Seafoods, Ocean Beauty Seafoods, Trident Seafoods, and North Pacific Seafoods. They also learned about the fishing industry, management philosophy and sustainability. Alaska has a low population and its waters are a means of survival for many. In fact, the fishing and processing industry employs far more people than any other industry. Heavily influenced by fishing and their close relationship with the ocean, Alaskans understand the need to protect fisheries and surrounding habitat for future generations. Aside from tempting their taste buds, the travelers had an enriching experience.
