On November 9, 2005, ASMI China organized a highly successful Alaska seafood BBQ event at Guangzhou’s White Swan Hotel. This was the first time for ASMI China to hold a BBQ reception. The participants included importers, wholesalers, retailers, chefs and high-end hotel/restaurant purchasing managers from Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. There were approximately 180 traders and HRI staff which attended the event. Mr. Casey Bean (from the US Embassy Agricultural Affairs Office), Mr. Keith Schneller (ATO Guangzhou Director), and other Alaska industry members were present at the reception.
The event was decorated with an Alaska seafood BBQ theme including extra large Alaska seafood posters, and cooking and buffet stations. There was a large display of Alaska seafood including king / sockeye / coho salmon, three varieties of crab, and black cod. Alaska seafood messages were delivered via audience participation activities. During the reception, all of the participants had opportunities to taste grilled Alaska seafood including sockeye salmon, black cod, halibut and king crab. Additionally, a package of Alaska seafood POS materials was distributed to all participants.
